The Shanghai Wild Animal Park is China’s first national grade zoo. Spanning an area of over 150 hectares, it is also one of the largest zoos in the country. It is home to over five thousand animals from over two hundred different species and is an interesting place to visit. Visiting the animal park is a ‘must do’ especially for tourists with children. The various animals found here are sure to excite and delight visitors of all ages and walks of life. The site can be broadly divided into two parts – the part that can be explored by foot and the part that requires the use of a tour bus. The latter section is more exciting as it brings visitors very close to the animals.

The main sections of the zoo include the performance hall, where lions, tigers, dogs, bears, monkeys and even sheep perform various antics in front of an enthralled audience; the area for wild animals contains some of the park’s most ferocious inhabitants. The section for herbivores is home to the gentler creatures of the animal kingdom; the penned area is the place to see a variety of animals including the iconic giant panda, crocodiles and white lions and tigers.

While feeding the animals is generally prohibited, there are exceptions made for the giraffes and elephants. Before leaving the park one should take the Ferris wheel ride, which gives one an aerial overview of the entire place. This attraction is located roughly twenty two kilometres from Shanghai’s city centre. It is open every day from 8 am to 5 pm. One has to pay an admission fee to enter, but it is definitely worth the price. As it is a prominent attraction, the Shanghai Wild Animal Park is easy to access by several modes of public transport.

Those looking for accommodation Shanghai should consider going for serviced apartments instead of hotels, especially for long stays. Serviced apartments Shanghai, like the Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai, offer more flexibility. The apartments are ideally located close to many local attractions such as the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Shanghai Museum. Exuding an atmosphere of quiet elegance, it is the perfect home away from home.
